Residential Mattress Recycling & Pickup
Recycle your old mattress or box spring with Kernovate, a Bloomington-based nonprofit serving local households. Schedule drop-off for $10 per piece, or book pickup for $10 per piece plus a distance-based zone fee. Residential pickup is available for eligible addresses within 60 miles of Bloomington.
Pickup Coverage for Homes and Apartments
We collect from homes, apartments, condos, and student housing at eligible addresses within 60 miles of our Bloomington base. This includes Bloomington, Normal, and surrounding McLean County communities. Enter your address during booking to confirm coverage and your pickup zone. Outside the service area? Clear Pricing: $10 per Piece Plus Pickup Zone Fee
Drop-off costs $10 per piece with no pickup zone fee. Pickup costs $10 per piece plus one fee for your distance zone. A mattress and a box spring count as two pieces; for example, a set costs $20 to drop off, or $40 for pickup in Zone 1.
- Zone 1: up to 15 miles — $20 pickup fee.
- Zone 2: over 15 to 30 miles — $40 pickup fee.
- Zone 3: over 30 to 45 miles — $60 pickup fee.
- Zone 4: over 45 to 60 miles — $80 pickup fee.
Distance is measured from our Bloomington base. Your address determines the zone, and the scheduler displays the total before payment. Both pickup and drop-off bookings require payment online.
Accepted Items and Condition Requirements
We accept innerspring, memory foam, and hybrid mattresses, plus box springs and foundations, in standard sizes from twin to California king. The booking form includes a $10-per-piece category for futons, fold-outs, toppers, and other specialty items; contact us to confirm unusual items before booking.
We cannot accept bed-bug infested, wet, water-damaged, soiled, or heavily stained mattresses. Keep items dry until pickup or drop-off. Accepted mattresses and box springs are deconstructed to separate recoverable materials such as steel, foam, fiber, and wood.
How to Book Pickup or Drop-Off
- Choose pickup or drop-off in the online scheduler.
- List your items and quantities. For pickup, enter your address to confirm the service area and zone fee.
- Select an available date and time, and add useful access details such as stairs or apartment entry instructions.
- Review the total and complete payment, then follow the booking details to prepare your items.
Drop-off is by appointment in Bloomington, with available hours Monday through Saturday, 9 AM to 6 PM. Schedule a residential drop-off and check your booking details for the current location and arrival instructions. If you need a bed rather than mattress removal, the BEDS program uses a separate partner-agency referral process.
